T helper cells aid B cells with the production of antibodies and thus play a central role in disease development of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Numerous T helper cell abnormalities have been described in SLE patients that contribute to disease pathophysiology and provide suitable targets for therapeutic intervention. In addition, T effector cell also play a less well-defined role in SLE. This review focusses on underlying molecular mechanisms of different T cell alterations in SLE
