Zusammenfassung: | Hypotheses were developed from Murstein's SVR (stimulus-value-role) theory to test the sequence of the value and role stages. In addition, exploratory hypotheses concerning the influence of personal and couple readiness for marriage were also developed to identify their impact at the two different stages. A sample of 88 couples who completed a premarital instrument was contacted by telephone to identify the status of the relationship approximately one year later. The results provided little support for a sequence of value and role stages. Results concerning personal and couple readiness indicated possible differences by the two stages. Findings were discussed in terms of the application to theory, research and intervention. |
