Jonathan Kaplan untersucht verschiedene Aspekte der „NS-Vergangenheitsbewältigung“ im MfAA: die Integration von DDR-Diplomaten mit politischen Erfahrungen aus dem „Dritten Reich“ und von Diplomaten mit jüdischer Herkunft, und die propagandistischen Maßnahmen der DDR gegen Nazi- und Kriegsverbrecher in der Bundesrepublik.
