|a Zusammenfassung Für die 1923 ins Leben gerufene DVjs sollten gemäß dem Programm ihrer Gründer das Mittelalter und die mittelalterliche Literatur eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Der vorliegende Beitrag analysiert, wie dieses Programm in der Praxis realisiert und wie das Verhältnis von Literaturwissenschaft und Geistesgeschichte in wechselnden Perspektiven konturiert wurde: von den frühen Ansätzen eines Günther Müller, Wolfgang Stammler oder Walther Rehm bis hin zu den Neubegründungen der Nachkriegszeit bei Hugo Kuhn. Sichtbar wird ein Stück Wissenschaftsgeschichte der germanistischen Mediävistik, das heute noch Aktualität besitzt.
