| Résumé: | Riassunto Nel periodo dalla fine del IX secolo fino alla conquista normanna nella seconda metà dell’XI la Puglia faceva parte dell’Impero bizantino. L’articolo analizza la presenza bizantina in Capitanata durante questo periodo, una presenza molto meno radicata ed evidente che nella Puglia centro-meridionale. Vengono esaminati i modi di datare i documenti nelle varie città (secondo gli anni di regno degli imperatori bizantini o dei principi lombardi), le strutture amministrative e difensive con i funzionari e i militari effettivamente in servizio sul territorio, nonché l’influenza bizantina sulle istituzioni ecclesiastiche. Abstract From the late 9th century until the Norman conquest in the second half of the 11th century, Apulia was part of the Byzantine Empire. The article analyses the Byzantine presence in the Capitanata during this period, where it is far less wellrooted and evident than in central and southern Apulia. The systems used to date documents in the various cities (based on the reigns of the Byzantine emperors or the Lombard princes) are discussed, alongside the administrative and defensive structures with the functionaries and soldiers actually serving in the area and the influence of the Byzantine government on ecclesiastical institutions. |
