Doch führten sie im Rücken der deutschen Front nicht nur einen „Volkskrieg“ gegen die Besatzer, sondern immer auch einen Bürgerkrieg, an dem sich viel mehr Gruppen beteiligten, als es die sowjetische und nun teilweise auch die russische Historiographie suggeriert. Auch sonst scheinen Korrekturen angebracht an der Geschichte des sowjetischen Partisanenkriegs; das betrifft seinen Charakter, seine Gegner, seine Opfer und nicht zuletzt seine militärische Bedeutung. Dass diese weit übertrieben wurde, wird schon lange vermutet. Mit Hilfe eines systematischen Vergleichs deutscher und sowjetischer Quellen kann Sebastian Stopper dies erstmals exakt mit Zahlen belegen.
520			\|a Abstract Soviet partisan warfare has long been surrounded by myths. By now we have sufficient sources that allow for a much more nuanced look at this part of the German-Soviet war theatre. A question that inevitably also comes up is the military utility of this form of Soviet warfare. Soviet and even post-Soviet historiography never left this matter in doubt: it has overemphasised the effectiveness of partisan warfare. A case study of the Bryansk region, i.e. the hinterland of the Battle of Kursk in 1943, provides a quite different picture. The attacks of the partisans on the German railway lines in the rear area of the German armies have hitherto been considerably overestimated due to an abundance of false information in Soviet sources. A systematic comparison between the Soviet and the German files covering this sector in space and time reveals only minimal influence on supply lines due to partisan activity.
