|a À l’heure où les politiques des villes en appellent à toujours plus d’implication et de participation de la part des habitant·es, nous nous sommes intéressées au bénévolat de care, effectué par des femmes, dans des centres d’animation socioculturelle en Suisse romande – une activité historiquement invisibilisée, à plusieurs titres. La mise en perspective du care sous l’angle de l’éthique permet de repenser les modèles participatifs, ainsi que d’observer au plus près le passage entre un prendre soin, dans le proche, et des formes d’engagement, en public. Cette approche ouvre une intéressante piste d’intervention, en partant de ce que sont et ce que font les femmes avec lesquelles nous avons travaillé collectivement, dans un centre socioculturel, afin de promouvoir et renforcer les processus de participation à la vie publique, mais cette fois « par le bas », donc par les femmes elles-mêmes.

|a At a time when urban policies are calling for ever greater involvement and participation on the part of local residents, we took an interest in voluntary care work carried out by women in community centers in French-speaking Switzerland – an activity that has historically been invisible, for a number of reasons. Putting care into an ethical perspective makes it possible to rethink participatory models, and to take a close look at the transition between taking care of someone close to you and forms of commitment in public. This approach opens up an interesting avenue of intervention, based on what the women with whom we have worked collectively in a socio-cultural center are and are doing, in order to promote and strengthen the processes of participation in public life, but this time ‘from below’, i.e. by the women themselves.
