Zusammenfassung:Integrating social justice with psychological theory necessitates that adjustments be made to more traditional group therapeutic practices. This article discusses the process of creating women's empowerment groups in an educational opportunity program at a major urban public university. The increased likelihood of trauma, housing insecurity, and racial and gender biases underscores the academic experiences of these students. A social advocacy component was added to help recruit students and enrich the group process. Group members became interested in using their perspectives to help others. This gave them the courage to discuss painful realities in their own lives. Participants experienced a transformative journey, from being group members to becoming social advocates. The concerns and experiences of the students and the therapist's perspective will be explored.
