Ultimately, Scott's engagement with the supernatural allows him to explore the possibilities of language and the limitations of poetic form. Interest in the supernatural also positions him in dialogue with Romantic contemporaries including Samuel Taylor Coleridge and John Keats, as well as situating his poetry within a gothic Romantic aesthetic.
