Signed in 2000, it has helped increase trade, but it has not reached its full potential in enhancing the development of most African states. Relying on relevant data for the period between 2000 and 2015, this article assesses AGOA's performance and considers factors hampering its effectiveness. We discuss prospects for AGOA following its renewal in 2015 and how President Trump's antipathy to trade pacts and globalization may affect AGOA and its future beyond 2025. We end by offering policy recommendations to improve AGOA's performance.
