Zusammenfassung: | The Office of the Cook County (Illinois) Public Guardian provides guardianship services for some 700 individuals with cognitive disabilities, and manages more than $100 million in estate assets. About 40 percent of the people under its guardianship were financially abused. To address the problem, the office initiated an innovative and highly successful financial exploitation civil recovery program, staffed by three senior attorneys, which has litigated dozens of complex cases and recovered more than $50 million over the past ten years. |
