|a Presented by the founder and Chair of the First Women’s Worlds, held in Israel in 1981- 82, this article historicizes the development of this international interdisciplinary congress up to its 13th edition in Brazil. It also discusses the creation of the Worldwide Organization of Women’s Studies (WOWS) and the close relationship it bears with the pre- and post-conference coordination. Apresentado pela fundadora e organizadora do primeiro Mundos de Mulheres, realizado em Israel em 1981-82, este artigo faz um histórico do desenvolvimento desse congresso internacional e interdisciplinar até sua mais recente 13ª edição, no Brasil. Também discute a criação da WOWS (Organização Mundial de Estudos sobre a Mulher) e a íntima relação entre esse grupo de pesquisadoras e a coordenação do Congresso.
