Zusammenfassung: | The occurrence of the false limpet genusSiphonariais described for the first time from the Badenian (Langhian) of the Paratethys. Comparison with coetaneous material available from France, Italy and Hungary suggests the presence of at least five morphologically distinct species of this always rare genus in the circum-Tethyan Miocene. Due to its scarcity in the fossil record, the biogeographical and biostratigraphical value of these species is low, but it is a good indicator for rocky intertidal paleo-environments. Siphonaria vulcanicais described as a new species.Siphonaria variecostataSacco, 1897 andHelcion subcostariad'Orbigny, 1852 are considered subjective junior synonyms ofS. bisiphitesMichelin, 1831.Patella subpolygonad'Orbigny, 1852 is considered an unjustified replacement name forSiphonaria polygona(Michelotti, 1847).Siphonaria polygona irregularisSacco, 1897 is raised to species rank.Siphonaria tournoueriDollfus & Dautzenberg, 1886 is considered anomen nudum. Siphonaria tournoueriPeyrot, 1938 is considered a junior homonym ofS. tournoueriVasseur, 1881.
