Zusammenfassung: | The survival of many species of Florida wildlife is threatened by widespread habitat loss. In order to assist in the identification of critical wildlife habitats before they are developed for other uses, a map of 22 land cover types (i.e., wildlife habitats) was created for the entire state of Florida using georeferenced Landsat Thematic Mapper imagery dated 1985-1989. During the study period, lands supporting relatively natural vegetative cover occurred over 58% of Florida, and lands showing evidence of disturbance occurred over 42% of the state. Pinelands were the most abundant upland cover type, freshwater marsh was the most abundant wetland type, and grassland/agriculture was the most abundant disturbed land type. |
