Differences in playing surface and alley plan suggest that different kinds of ballgame were played during the Terminal Classic period on these courts. Dos canchas de pelota fueron identificadas en el sitio maya clásico de La Milpa en el noroeste de Belice. Estas canchas están localizadas en los extremos norte y sur de la Gran Plaza, están orientadas este-oeste y norte-sur, respectivamente, y ambas pertenecen al período clásico terminal. Una prospección de contorno y limitadas excavaciones demuestran que la Cancha Norte es de tipo I y la Cancha Sur de Tipo II, según Taladoire (1981). Las diferencias en la superficie de juego y en el plano del corredor sugieren que en estas dos canchas se practicaron dos tipos distintos de juego de pelota en el mismo período en La Milpa. Piedras Negras, en las tierras bajas mayas, es el único sitio que tiene dos canchas de distinto tipo, aunque algunos sitios tienen dos canchas del mismo tipo, a veces orientadas en ángulo recto como en La Milpa. La tipología de Taladoire parece ser válida, pero las implicaciones de la ocurrencia de dos tipos diferentes de canchas durante el mismo período requiere mayor exploración.
