Zusammenfassung:Throughout metropolitan Atlanta, five zip codes are home to the highest HIV rates in the South. Residents in these zip codes are disproportionately African American. In light of the rising HIV rates in the Black community, in 2008 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a heightened call to address HIV that included the Black church. While the historic impact of the Black church has been well documented, churches' recent influence in addressing HIV in the changing Black community is highly questionable. In this study, Black faith leaders serving urban communities were interviewed about their interest and ability to address HIV in their communities. This inquiry shows how Black clergy struggle to navigate and provide HIV services to poor urban communities while serving increasing suburban congregations.
