A key to the species of Adontosternarchus is provided. Uma espécie nova do gênero Adontosternarchus (Gymnotiformes, Apteronotidae) é descrita baseada em amostras coletadas durante o período de cheia em uma área restrita da bacia do rio Purus, Amazonas, Brasil. Adontosternarchus duartei difere dos congêneres por uma série de caracteres de pigmentação, merísticos e morfométricos, e representa a sexta espécie do gênero. Uma chave para as espécies de Adontosternarchus é apresentada.
