Zusammenfassung: | The article examines the presence of peripeteia in Aen.10 and shows that in the use of this narrative device Virgil is indebted to an un-Homeric literary tradition, namely Hellenistic and Roman historiography. The presence of this un-epic narrative feature highlights the wider narrative structure of the war books 9-12 as Virgil, by a kind of artful engagement in polyeideia, assimilates them to the structure of tragedy. |
