|a There is little written evidence concerning commercial contacts in the early Old Kingdom. A re-used block from the Valley Temple of Khufu mentions three geographical terms, among them ḥꜣw-nbwt. The latter occurs also in the Pyramid Texts indicating distant geographical knowledge. The descriptive Egyptian term appears to refer to areas beyond regular commercial contacts.
