|a En este artículo medimos la evolución de las desigualdades en la terminación de la primaria y el ingreso a secundaria de los niños mexicanos entre 1960 y 2000. Nos centramos en tres tipos de desigualdades en la escolaridad: según la condición rural o urbana de la localidad de residencia, por género y por condición de hablante de un idioma indígena. Para conocer el efecto de los factores asociados a las familias que inciden en la terminación de la primaria y en el ingreso a secundaria, analizamos las desigualdades en la escolaridad de los niños que viven en comunidades rurales de los diez estados con mayor presencia indígena de la república mexicana. Prestamos especial atención a las diferencias entre niños y niñas, y entre hablantes y no hablantes de un idioma indígena. /// This article traces the development of inequalities in Mexican children's completion of primary school and entry into secondary school between 1960 and 2000, by focussing on three types of inequalities in educational attainment: rural or urban residence, gender and being a speaker of an indigenous language. In order to determine the effect of family-related factors that influence the completion of primary school and entry into secondary school, the authors analyzed inequalities in the educational attainment of children living in rural communities in the ten states with the highest indigenous presence in Mexico, focussing on the differences between boys and girls and between speakers and non-speakers of an indigenous language.
