| Zusammenfassung: | Eighteen species of halfbeaks, one previously undescribed, in 6 genera (Hyporhamphus, Hemiramphus, Euleptorhamphus, Rhynchorhamphus, Zenarchopterus, and Oxyporhamphus) are reported for the Far East region. Six of these are endemic: Hyporhamphus (Hyporhamphus) gernaerti, Hy. (Hy.) intermedius, Hy. (Hy.) paucirastris, Hy. (Hy.) sajori, Hy. (Hy.) taiwanensis n. sp., and Hy. (Reporhamphus) yuri. The other 12 species (Oxyporhamphus c. convexus and O. m. micropterus; Zenarchopterus buffonis and Z. dunckeri; Euleptorhamphus viridis; Hemiramphus far and He. lutkei; Rhynchorhamphus georgii; Hy. (Hyporhamphus) limbatus; and Hy. (Reporhamphus) affinis, Hy. (R.) dussumieri, and Hy. (R.) quoyi) are tropical or oceanic species whose ranges extend into Far East waters. Hyporhamphus (Hyporhamphus) taiwanensis n. sp. is restricted to Taiwan. It resembles the more wide-spread Hy. intermedius in numerous predorsal scales (52-61 vs. 48-63 in Hy. intermedius) but differs in having all tricuspid rather than many unicuspid teeth and in having the upper jaw wider than long rather than longer than wide (length divided by width 0.76-0.96 vs. 1.1-1.3). Other characters include gill rakers on the first arch 29-33, dorsal fin rays 13-16, anal fin rays 14-17, and vertebrae 49-51.
