Revised keys are given to the species of Meiacanthus and Plagiotremus. Seven new species of Meiacanthus are described and illustrated: M. abditus (Sulu Archipelago), M. crinitus (Irian Jaya), M. naevius western Australia), M. limbatus (Bismarck Archipelago), M. vicinus (Sulawesi), M. luteus (Australia), and M. tongaensis (Tonga Islands). Meiacanthus ovalauensis (Günther), previously recognized as a subspecies of M. atrodorsalis (Günther), is accorded full specific rank. Lembeichthys celebesensis Herre is synonymized with Plagiotremus spilistius Gill. All known mimetic associations involving species of Meiacanthus are briefly summarized, including some new observations.
