|a This article draws on ethnographic and historical materials to interpret several related photographs and ritual images created by Fuyuge-speakers of highland Papua. The images are analysed as techniques of vision. That is, the images are shown to bring forth present perceptions in a timely manner, as evaluated by Fuyuge men and women. It is shown how the representations are informed by distinctive Fuyuge retentions of the past in the present, and extensions of the present in the future. The article suggests that the tendency to 'read' photographic images for their semiotic connotations misses the local perceptions at work in their creation and use. Rather, photographic and ritual images are analogous to the relations of persons that produce them, with their mutually connected temporality. / A partir de matériaux ethnographiques et historiques, l'auteur interprète plusieurs photographies et images rituelles connexes créées par les Fuyuge des Hautes Terres de Papouasie. Les images sont analysées en tant que techniques de vision, c'est-à-dire qu'elles sont exhibées pour manifester des perceptions présentes au moment estimé opportun par les hommes et femmes Fuyuge. L'article montre comment les représentations exploitent la manière spécifique des Fuyuge de retenir le passé dans le présent et de prolonger le présent dans le futur. Il suggère que la tendance à rechercher une connotation sémiotique à travers la « lecture » des images photographiques ne tient pas compte des perceptions locales à l'œuvre dans leur création et leur utilisation. Au lieu de cela, les images photographiques et rituelles sont analogues aux relations et temporalités mutuellement connectées des personnes qui les produisent.
