|a A new set of homologies of the bones of the head shield of Macropetalichthys is derived from a comparison with the pattern of the recently described Aethaspis ohioensis. The latter species appears to be near the common ancestry of the Phyllolepida, Petalichthyida, and Euarthrodira on both stratigraphical and morphological evidence.
