Relationships among consanguinity, family history, and the onset of type 1 diabetes in children from Saudi Arabia

• Parental consanguinity may play a role in the development of T1DM. • Parental consanguinity was not clearly linked to T1DM in children. • A family history of autoimmunity was not clearly linked to T1DM in children. • A history of affected first-cousin parents increases the risk of T1DM.
