Effectiveness of individual strategies for the empowerment of patients with diabetes mellitus: A systematic review with meta-analysis

• Overall glycohemoglobin remained unchanged although there was short improvement in some studies. • Empowerment presented psychosocial benefits, knowledge about DM, self-care, and motivation. • Face-to-face contact between health professionals and patient is essential for assessing goals.
