Family physician ethnicity influences quality of diabetes care for Chinese but not South Asian patients

• Chinese patients with a Chinese physician have better quality of diabetes care. • Quality was not influenced by physician ethnicity for South Asian patients. • Factors associated with ethnicity may be more important than ethnicity itself.
