|a Martin Niemöller nahm die Unrechtsverhältnisse der Welt nicht hin. Als Vorsitzender des Pfarrernotbunds und Pfarrer in Berlin-Dahlem verteidigte er Schrift und Bekenntnis gegen den NS-Staat, obwohl er 1933 die Einführung des 'Führerstaates' zunächst begrüßt hatte. Seine Predigten prägten die kirchliche Opposition gegen Hitler. Aufgrund seines Widerstands wurde er acht Jahre in Konzentrationslagern inhaftiert. Nach dem Ende des 'Dritten Reiches' stellte er wie kein anderer die Frage nach der Schuld, auch nach der eigenen. In der Nachkriegszeit engagierte er sich für eine Annäherung der Kirchen in Ost und West und setzte sich für die 'Dritte Welt' ein. Im Verhältnis von Christentum und Krieg stellte Niemöller die kirchliche Legitimation des Waffendienstes in Frage. Der Band enthält u. a. Predigten aus der NS-Zeit, Reden und Vorträge zur Frage der Schuld der Kirche, über den Pazifismus, zum Verhältnis zu Entwicklungsländern, zur Wiederbewaffnung, über die Bedrohung durch Atomwaffen und über die 'Notstandsgesetze'
