|b Abstract S. 143: "Leibniz's use of indices in algebra is an important example of his combinatorial characteristic. He invented more than fifty ways of using fictive numbers as indices. He solved inhomogeneous systems of linear equations and deduced several general theorems, thus anticipating results of the theory of determinants. At the same time he developed several methods of eliminating the common variable of two polynomials and calculated their resultant."
