Anna Schnädelbach untersucht erstmals, auf welche Weise Lage und Verhalten von Kriegerwitwen in der westdeutschen Gesellschaft diskutiert wurden und welche persönlichen Strategien Kriegerwitwen zur Bewältigung ihrer Situation entwickelten. Sie weist nach, dass für viele der Witwen die Möglichkeiten, über Erwerbsarbeit ihren Lebensunterhalt zu sichern, äußerst begrenzt waren
