Zusammenfassung:Summary: The author presents an overview of the history and the present state of the analysis of textbooks for religious instruction as conducted in the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as of the development of these books as reflected in the analysis. In addition, he gives an outline of possible future developments. In Germany, for more than twenty years the textbooks for religious instruction published since the end of World War II have been analyzed, mainly in terms of their attention to world problems and of evidence of bias. The study reveals a positive trend in the development of these textbooks. The books published during the post-war period and up to 1968 largely neglect to consider contemporary and world problems and tend to reinforce prejudices rather than moderate them, whereas those of the seventies and eighties attempt to relate the Christian religion to problems of the modern secularized world, and to identify prejudices and challenge them.
