Von der Staatsgründung im Jahr 1949 bis zu ihrem für viele Zeitzeugen überraschenden Zusammenbruch 1989/90 durchlief die DDR stetig Neuorientierungen sowie von oben nach unten weitergereichte Reglementierungen. Im Spannungsfeld zwischen Herrschaftsdurchsetzung, -etablierung und -sicherung bewies die DDR dabei eine erstaunliche Langlebigkeit. Aus Quellen gearbeitet erzählen Dr. Markus Mirschel und Samuel Kunze von persönlichen Schicksalen, normativen Vorgaben durch die Staats- und Parteiführung sowie von Anpassungsprozessen innerhalb der Sicherheitsorgane der DDR während der 40-jährigen Geschichte der zweiten Diktatur auf deutschem Boden.
