|a Tausende von meist jungen Deutschen fanden über Landau in der Pfalz ihren Weg zur französischen Fremdenlegion. Die Garnisonsstadt in der Südpfalz war nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg mit Intensivierung des französisch geführten Indochinakriegs einer der zentralen Anwerbeorte des militärischen Großverbands im französisch besetzten Teil Deutschlands. Wie sich die konfliktträchtige Personalrekrutierung der französischen Besatzungsmacht und die von deutschen Stellen während des ersten Nachkriegsjahrzehnts im Raum Landau eingeleiteten Gegenmaßnahmen beeinflussten und gestalteten, steht im Mittelpunkt dieser Abhandlung. Das Buch schließt eine regionalgeschichtliche Forschungslücke und beruht vorrangig auf deutschem und französischem Archivmaterial.
