In Berlin erlebte der Kalte Krieg seine Zuspitzung, bevor er hier sein symbolisches Ende fand. Die Stadt stand im Mittelpunkt der Weltgeschichte wie Rom vor zweitausend Jahren. Deshalb gilt Berlin als das Rom der Zeitgeschichte. Hanno Hochmuth nähert sich der Geschichte und der Gegenwart Berlins auf topografische und fotografische Weise. Ausgehend von populären Zuschreibungen der Stadt begibt er sich an 51 historische Orte und erzählt so die Geschichte Berlins im 20. Jahrhundert
