| Zusammenfassung: | The article dealswith binational couple relationships in divided Germany. The focus is on the social-administrative attempts at control and regulation of such relationships, which occurred with increasing frequency over the years in both the FRG and the GDR, as well as the modes of perception. Binational marriages are partly a sign of a tendency toward individualization after 1945; still, there are limits to dynamics of inclusion, which these couple constellations prove particularly well. The article therefore also discusses individual couples’ ability to maneuver within and against societal constraints. |
