Vor dem Hintergrund des noch immer virulenten Deutungskonflikts um die damaligen Proteste untersucht dieses Buch als erste zeithistorische Studie auf breiter Quellengrundlage die "lange" Geschichte des Streiks und zeigt, dass einseitige Narrative vom Siegeszug des Westens oder von der "Übernahme" des Ostens durch den Westen der historischen Wirklichkeit nicht gerecht werden.
