Zusammenfassung:The authentification of Ignatius' Letters is a problem that has been intensively investigated in recent times. One key aspect involves the social and legal status of Ignatius. There is some evidence arguing in favour of his Roman citizenship: first, there is his name, corresponding to Latin Egnatius; second, his transfer from Antioch to Rome in connection with special claims to jurisdiction by the highest legal authority; and third, his astonishing knowledge of the official Latin language. In the framework of Antioch society, Ignatius' family or ancestors sought out the option to be granted the Roman franchise.
