Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:Analyzes the role and importance of anti-Jewish ideas and expressions in works of German philosophers and in the German philosophical trend called "Deutscher Idealismus", between 1789-1848. Discusses the conceptions of Kant, Fichte, Schleiermacher, Hegel, Schelling, and Marx. Cites Kant's "Anthropologie in pragmatischer Hinsicht", where he argued in 1798 that "Palestinians who live among us" have a reputation of impostors due to their passion for the practice of usury, and designated them as vampires of society. He called also for a "euthanasia of Judaism." Fichte's anti-Judaism was political-theoretical, directed against Jewish religion, but opposed to antisemitic outrages. Argues that the German philosophers' attitudes toward Jews and Judaism were directed by their conception of Christianity, which was imprinted with an anti-Jewish tradition. But while Fichte, Schleiermacher, Hegel, and Schelling aspired to a deeper understanding of Christianity, Kant and Marx wished for its abolition
