Und auch Jena ist zunächst kaum mehr als eine kleine, arme Universitätsstadt. Dennoch zieht es um 1800 die bedeutendsten Dichter und Denker in die Doppelstadt. Doch was hielt die Genies in der Thüringer Provinz? Georg Schmidt führt kenntnisreich in die faszinierende Welt von Weimar und Jena ein und öffnet neue Perspektiven auf die Werkstätten der Schönheit, die wir so gut zu kennen glauben. Das klassische Weimar beginnt in den frühen 1770er-Jahren, als sich in Deutschland das bleierne Gefühl des Stillstands und Verharrens verbreitete und neue Impulse dringend benötigt wurden. And Jena is initially little more than a small, poor university town. Nevertheless, around 1800 the most important poets and thinkers were drawn to the twin cities. But what kept the geniuses in the Thuringian provinces? Georg Schmidt provides a knowledgeable introduction to the fascinating world of Weimar and Jena and opens up new perspectives on the workshops of beauty that we think we know so well. Classical Weimar began in the early 1770s, when a leaden feeling of stagnation and persistence spread in Germany and new impetus was urgently needed. Against the background of the dramatic current events, Georg Schmidt describes everyday life on the Ilm and Saale, makes the motives and networks of the actors understandable and shows how the fruitful symbiosis of court and university, dilettantism and science, enlightenment and classicism, romanticism and idealism allows the double city a focal point of intellectual endeavors in Germany.
