Composé vers 1160-70, ce texte est capital pour l'histoire de Dijon et des rapports entre rois de France, ducs de Bourgogne et évêques de Langres. Véritable panégyrique, la "Vie de Garnier" représente le prévôt comme un grand bâtisseur et un héritier moral des droits épiscopaux à Dijon.
