Auf diese Weise sollen dem bis dato nur holzschnittartigen Bild der jülich-bergischen Kirchengeschichtsforschung von der Publizistik lutherischer Pfarrer neue, quellenbasierte Perspektiven eröffnet werden. Dabei erarbeitet Greve, dass unter den Voraussetzungen eines gemischt-konfessionellen Territoriums und dem Vordringen der Aufklärungstheologie bei den jülich-bergischen Pfarrern somit eine Form des lutherischen Pietismus entstanden ist, die das lutherische Erbe sowie pietistische Theologie und Frömmigkeit mit der Verbindung reformatorischer, orthodoxer bzw. konfessionell-lutherischer und neologischer Elemente abzusichern suchte. Gemeinsames Ziel der pietistisch beeinflussten Pfarrer Jülich-Bergs ist die Erfahrbarkeit des Religiösen." (Verlagsinformation)
