Die Beziehungen der Gurlitt-Familie zur Schweiz, zu Bern vor allem, waren enger, als bisher bekannt. Im Kern ist der Fall Gurlitt ein Lehrstück. Er wirft ein Licht auf die Mechanismen von Beziehungsnetzen, auf die zwiespältige Rolle von Kunstsammlern, Kunsthändlern, Museumsverantwortlichen, Medien, Anwälten und selbst ernannten Interessenvertretern. Und er wirft ein Licht auf Themen im Spannungsfeld von Recht und Moral, die bis heute aktuell sind: nationalsozialistische Verfolgung und der Umgang mit Raubgut, Fluchtkunst und als «entartet» diffamierter Kunst. Die Spuren von Verfolgung, Verfemung und Verdrängung führen auch nach Bern.
