Nostalgische Erinnerungen widmen sich der Insel inmitten der DDR; die alte City West rund um den Breitscheidplatz wird wiederentdeckt; Ausstellungen beschäftigen sich mit West-Berlin und seinen Heroen. Vor allem aber boomt das visuelle Gedächtnis der Teilstadt. In dichter Folge erscheinen derzeit Bildbände mit Fotografien, die von der frühen West-Berliner Nachkriegszeit bis zum Fall der Mauer reichen. Besonders der Bezirk Kreuzberg findet hierbei ein unvergleichliches Interesse: Allein im Jahr 2013 erschien ein halbes Dutzend neuer Bildbände mit zeithistorisch interessanten Kreuzberg-Fotos.
