|a ABSTRACT. In this work we present an analysis of Bach, by Pedro Eiras, focusing on the reflection it proposes on the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of art as a means of understanding our being in the world. First, we concentrate on issues pertaining to genre, and then we turn our attention to the representation of reading and writing, on music and cinema in Bach. We attempt to interpret the concepts of art, expression and knowledge present in the work, by relating them to ideas that characterize modern and contemporary thought, bearing particularly on political, expressive and epistemological resistance, on music as an archetype for expression and understanding, and finally on post-secularism.
