Zusammenfassung: | German economic power in Europe is uncontested. What is contested are its effects on Germany's neighbors. Accompanying the obvious benefits that accrue to Europe from German economic might are also potential disadvantages, particularly that of dependence. Data on Germany's relationship with countries in both East and West Europe shed light on this issue. This study suggests that the benefits outweigh any associated costs, thus rendering Germany a benign hegemon. |
